5 Tips to Help You Prepare for Invisalign Treatment
June 4, 2024
Are you soon going to attend your first Invisalign appointment? You have a lot to be excited about! Still, you might wonder about the road in front of you. What can you do to prepare for Invisalign treatment? This blog post provides some practical tips that will help you get your teeth-straightening journey off to an excellent start.
#1. Adjust Your Brushing Habits
Most people can enjoy good oral health if they brush their teeth twice a day. However, Invisalign patients need to brush even more often. In fact, it is recommended that you clean your teeth after every meal! This helps to keep your aligners clean and fresh while also protecting your teeth from plaque. Trying to get into the habit of frequent brushing before you start your treatment can make it easier to transition to the new habits that will be required with Invisalign.
#2. Cut Back on Snacks
Frequent snacking is never good for oral health, but cutting back on snacks is especially important for Invisalign patients. That is because you should keep your aligners on your teeth for at least 20 – 22 hours each day. Since you have to remove them when you eat, snacking too often could make it difficult for you to meet the required wear time. Try to plan your three main meals so they can keep you satiated for several hours at a time.
#3. Buy All the Necessary Supplies
When you receive your Invisalign aligners from your dentist, they will probably provide a small kit of additional supplies. However, there may still be some things that you should purchase on your own. For example, some people choose to buy a small appliance to help them remove their aligners. You might also need some packets of Invisalign cleaning crystals to keep your aligners as fresh as possible.
#4. Put Together a Dental Hygiene Kit
As mentioned earlier, it is important to brush your teeth following every meal. To make doing so easier, consider putting together a small oral hygiene kit that you can take with you wherever you go. It should include a toothbrush, floss, and fluoridated toothpaste. A mini bottle of mouthwash might also be a good addition.
#5. Figure Out the Financials
In most cases, Invisalign costs at least a few thousand dollars. You can choose to pay for it upfront, but most practices offer other options as well. For example, you might qualify for low-interest financing. Decide how much you can comfortably afford each month so Invisalign will not put too much of a strain on your budget.
Invisalign treatment can be an exciting experience! The above tips can help you embark on your journey in the right way.
